Float into Balance
In a world that often feels heavy, I offer a sanctuary of lightness through an approach I call Bubble Qigong. This is my personal take on facilitating the ancient art of Qigong (pronounced approximately Chee Gung) - a way of holding space that helps you allow stress to float away and rediscover the natural, shimmering joy within your own energy. Through evocative imagery of translucent bubbles and the harmony of the Five Elements, I invite you to breath, move, and find your way back to center.
My "Bubble" approach isn't about "getting it right"***; it's about feeling it right. I intentionally hold this space as a safe, compassionate environment where:
Quiet Joy Is the Compass: The subtle emotional lift and tranquility that comes from easy, rhythmic flow are prioritized over forcing "perfect" or "idealized" form.
Your Uniqueness Is Respected: Your individual physical and energetic patterns are honored. There is no "one size fits all" - only that which fits you in the moment.
Effortless Exploration: The focus remains on the discovery of inner peace and "happy Qi" during our time together.
While the environment I provide feels as light as air, my guidance is grounded in decades of study. I bring a balance of experience & eastern and western thought to my role as your facilitator:
A Scientific Foundation: a degree in biological science
Decades of Experience: multiple certifications as a Qigong and Taiji instructor
Traditional Wisdom: various certifications for the application of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) theory specifically to the energetic pathways of Qigong
I believe the best way to learn is to experience the flow. Therefore, I intentionally leave overly technical details and theory at the door during our practice. This allows you to stay in the "flow state" without over-analyzing. However, for the curious mind, I offer individualized personalized coaching.
*** While I encourage energetic exploration and self-expression, I will correct anything that jeopardizes your safety or the safety of others.
From a flip comment to a lovely metaphor: Bubble Qigong started as a flip comment my partner made when he noticed that I was doing Qigong-like movements with the bubbles in a jacuzzi.
It grew into a beautiful metaphor for how I'd like to guide others in their wellness experience with Qigong.
Bubbles can represent:
Adaptability and flexible, fluid structure of the body, mind, and spirit
Changing and impermanent nature
Delicate and soft balance
Effortlessness
Individual and unique beauty & flow
Inner peace and tranquility
Joy and playfulness
and much more 😃
The efficacy of Qigong is often attributed to the "Three Regulations":
Body Regulation: Posture and movement.
Breath Regulation: Deep, diaphragmatic breathing.
Mind Regulation: Meditation and visualization.
There is a growing body of research that shows practicing Qigong can support your health & wellbeing - a small sample of the clinical research is listed below.
Research consistently shows that Qigong modulates the Autonomic Nervous System, shifting the body from a "fight or flight" (sympathetic) state to a "rest and digest" (parasympathetic) state.
Reduced Anxiety: Meta-analyses show significant reductions in state and trait anxiety across various populations. [Ref: NIH/PMC3557628]
Alleviation of Depression: Qigong has been found to be as effective as conventional exercise in reducing depressive symptoms. [Ref: Focus/Psychiatry Online]
Stress Management: Practice regulates the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis, lowering cortisol levels. [Ref: Frontiers/Psychology]
Improved Mood Regulation: Regular practice is linked to better emotional stability and reduced mood swings. [Ref: NIH/PMC6519567]
Enhanced Self-Efficacy: Practitioners often report a greater sense of control over their health and emotional state. [Ref: American Journal of Health Promotion]
Reduced Fatigue: Especially in chronic illness or cancer recovery, Qigong significantly lowers self-reported fatigue. [Ref: NIH/PMC12004731]
Increased Focus & Clarity: The meditative component improves attention span and "cognitive control." [Ref: Cleveland Clinic/Qigong]
Physical benefits are often the most easily measured, ranging from cardiovascular health to cellular-level changes in the immune system.
Lowered Blood Pressure: Systematic reviews confirm Qigong’s effectiveness in reducing both systolic and diastolic blood pressure. [Ref: BMC Complementary Med]
Improved Balance & Gait: Qigong strengthens the lower body and improves proprioception, reducing fall risks in older adults. [Ref: NIH/PMC3085832]
Enhanced Immune Function: Studies show increases in T-cell activity and improved vaccine response in practitioners. [Ref: American Journal of Health Promotion]
Increased Bone Density: Gentle weight-bearing and structural alignment have been shown to slow bone mineral loss. [Ref: ResearchGate/44900749]
Cardiopulmonary Efficiency: Regular practice improves lung capacity and heart rate variability (HRV). [Ref: NIH/PMC3085832]
Pain Management: It is effective in reducing chronic pain associated with arthritis and fibromyalgia. [Ref: MDPI/Cancers]
Improved Sleep Quality: Practitioners report falling asleep faster and experiencing deeper, more restorative sleep. [Ref: Perspectives on Integrative Medicine]
Neuroplasticity: Neuroimaging shows increased cortical thickness and hippocampal volume in long-term practitioners. [Ref: Osher Center for TCQ]
Metabolic Health: Evidence suggests Qigong helps regulate blood glucose and improves risk factors for metabolic syndrome. [Ref: Frontiers in Endocrinology]
While "spiritual" benefits are harder to quantify with blood tests, researchers use validated "Quality of Life" (QoL) and "Spiritual Well-being" scales to track these shifts.
Increased Spiritual Well-being: Significant improvements have been measured using the FACIT-Sp scale, reflecting a greater sense of meaning and peace. [Ref: NIH/PMC8159432]
Enhanced Quality of Life (QoL): Broad improvements in social, environmental, and physical satisfaction scores. [Ref: Perspectives on Integrative Medicine]
Heightened Interoception: Improved "body-mind" awareness, or the ability to sense internal physiological states. [Ref: Osher Center for TCQ]
Emotional Resilience: A measured increase in the ability to recover from stressful events or "bounce back." [Ref: NIH/PMC8159432]
IMPORTANT: While Qigong is generally safe for most people, I do NOT work with anyone who is pregnant or anyone who has not gone through puberty since I do not have the highly specialized training required to ensure their safety. My credentials support working with any other populations.
